Fast, flexible, and the daily ride of most residents. Just step to the curb and wave. Shared minibuses, called sotramas, cruise the main arteries for even less. They leave when full, not on the clock. Bring extra patience. It is the hidden fare. Taxis sit one rung higher. Prices are moderate and negotiable. Always settle the amount before you climb in. Meters remain rare. Between cities, shared bush taxis and intercity coaches link Ouagadougou with Bobo-Dioulasso and other regional hubs. Coaches cost a bit more but give you legroom. Main roads are paved, smooth, and fast. Secondary tracks crumble quickly. Expect delays. There is no passenger rail in regular service. Do not plan around it. From Ouagadougou International, taxis dominate the ride downtown. The hop is short. Yet the fare is not fixed. Agree before the trunk closes. Ignore the swarm of touts inside arrivals. Walk straight to the official rank outside. Moto-taxis work once you are unpacked in the city. With suitcases they are hopeless. A cheap fare is not worth the juggling act.
